Socialist Resistance published at socialistresistance.org from November 2006 to May 2022. This is a static archive of everything it published: 2,254 articles, about 2.9 million words, together with 3,611 reader comments, 444 event listings and the site's eight standing pages.
Where it comes from
It was rebuilt in September 2026 from the site's own WordPress backup — a full copy of the server files and a dump of the database — supplied by the people who ran it. It is therefore not a crawl or a reconstruction: the article text is the text as the database held it, and nothing has been through OCR.
That matters, because the version of socialistresistance.org that had been left online was a partial mirror whose listing pages had stopped working. A careful crawl of it in August 2026 could reach only 618 articles. 1,645 of the articles here could not be reached from the web at all.
What has changed
- The original addresses are preserved. An old link of the form
socialistresistance.org/some-title/1234resolves to the same article here. - The WordPress theme, sidebars, widgets, share buttons and tracking are gone. The design here is new and deliberately plain; the intention is that the writing reads well and keeps working.
- Comments are reproduced but closed.
- Images are included where the backup still held them. Around 500 images had already broken on the original site before the backup was taken, and those remain missing.
- Six posts that the site kept back as private and never published are not reproduced here. One of them is the full text of an article its author asked to have taken down; the published notice of that removal remains in place.
Authorship
The database carries no usable author records — every surviving login is a shared admin account, and hundreds of articles point at user accounts deleted years ago. Where a piece names its author it does so in the text, as the paper's house style did: “… writes Andy Stowe”, “Dave Kellaway explains…”, or simply a name at the top.
The bylines shown on this site were recovered by reading those patterns back out of the articles. They cover roughly a third of the archive. They are detected, not verified: a name can be picked up from someone quoted rather than the author, and an unsigned piece here may still have had an author. Use them to find your way around, and treat the article itself as the authority. The list of writers is organised the same way. Copyright in each piece rests with its author.
Completeness
This is believed to be the complete published run. It is possible that material deleted from WordPress before September 2026 is absent, since a database holds only what was still in it.
