Further Education offers young people and adults access to learning and education that they missed out on in school-- we equip students with the tools to think critically, provide access to education, we give the opportunity to realise self-esteem, to develop as a person and to participate fully in society as well as to gain skills and learn for employment.
Further education is now on the critical list—already 1 million students aged 19 and over, have been forced out of FE. This year’s funding cuts of 24% for all adult non apprenticeship courses threatens to close down FE. The most vulnerable students will suffer the most. In Hackney for example, “on track” Media, which brings back into education young people who have dropped out is due to close and all the art courses are due to close.
Led by our students, we are marching because the money needed for FE is a fraction of the money that bailed out the banks, a fraction of the taxes that go unpaid by big businesses advised by the financial institutions of the city. Join us.
