The retreat of the revolutionary process of 2011 in the Arab countries has opened the space for the counterrevolution. There is the dictatorship of Sisi in Egypt and the civil war launched by Assad. But there is also a resurgence of religious fundamentalism and political Islam with ISIS in Syria or the Taliban in Pakistan. Women still fighting in Tunisia say: “Neither dictatorship, nor Islamic fundamentalists. The feminist fight in the Muslim world should be to have democratic governments that respect the rights of women”.
The rise of far-right religious fundamentalism is not limited to that of Islam. There is also the Hinduism of Indian President Modi, Jewish Zionism in Israel and Christian evangelism. On the left, we need to try to answer questions such as: Why the rise of right-wing religious fundamentalism? What does it stand for? How can we resist it?
