The 1st Rowland Sheret Memorial Lecture will be held on Saturday March 7th 19:30, at the Tolbooth Theatre, Stirling. Roland was a longstanding supporter of the Fourth International in Scotland.
Peter Gowan whose book “Global Gamble” Rowland reread shortly before his death and who he was keen to get to Scotland, will give a lecture on Politics in the Era of Globalisation. We hope you can attend and will pass this on to others who may be able to come.
Peter with Rowland was a member of the IMG in the early ‘70s and edited Labour Focus on Eastern Europe. He is Professor of International Relations at London Metropolitan University and is on editorial board of New Left Review. Peter's recent work has focused on American capitalism and the influence of the United States on trans-Atlantic relations. Peter argues that the process of globalisation has been driven by the strategic political goals of the US state and business interests. His most recent article ‘Crisis in the Heartland’ in NLR 55 describes the origins of the current financial crisis in the dynamics of the New Wall Street System that has emerged since the 1980s.
