The striking teachers at Tower Hamlets College have won their demands and have voted to return to work tomorrow (Friday).
Their all out strike action has been rock solid for the last four weeks, they have shown that when you fight against cuts you can win. They have taken their message out to other work places throughout the strike, and have raised in the region of £20,000 in solidarity money.
All workers should take heart from the victory at Tower Hamlets College . They have shown that when jobs are threatened it does not have to be taken lying down. If we are prepared to unite and fight, the bosses can be forced to retreat. The strikers at Tower Hamlets College were always keen to stress that their fight was about more than their jobs, it was about the ramifications of those cuts on the community they serve. This was reflected in the overwhelming support they received from local people.
Join the Tower Hamlets College Strike victory rally tomorrow, Friday, morning at 8.30am. Their victory is a beacon to us all in the current climate of threats of huge cuts in public spending. The message to the Government and the bankers is loud and clear, “We won’t pay for their crisis!”
