The results of the elections will give preview of the period ahead. Across Europe, traditional parties of the left will be punished for their co-operation to make workers pay for the crisis and to breathe life back into capitalism. On Tuesday 9 June, join us at 7.30pm in the Indian YMCA on Fitzroy Square, W1 (Warren St tube) to hear Stathis Kouvelakis (member of the NPA and teaches political theory at King’s College) and Alan Thornett (Socialist Resistance).
In France, widespread union resistance including “boss-knapping” is making anti-capitalist and socialist ideas popular. The NPA (New Anti-Capitalist Party) is at 7% in the polls. In Britain, the political crisis from the parliamentary expenses is another reason for rejection of the parties that have managed the system. But we urgently need a broad socialist and working class party to put forward an alternative to organise resistance and give hope. Otherwise the danger is that the right will seize the initiative.
